Review: MAC Face and Body Foundation
I am back with another foundation review. Being on the hunt for that perfect foundation is like being on the hunt for that perfect undereye concealer. Foundations come in all forms, sizes and textures. The MAC Face & Body Foundation takes the cake for having the most unique texture. Hang on! I did not say it’s not a good foundie, just unique.. read on to find out more 😉
I have always been very curious about this foundation because the Pixiwoo sisters made it look so good! However, I used to think it’s a makeup artist type product since it comes in a big bottle, so was never really drawn to it. BUT… it now also comes in a cute little 50ml bottle that is perfect for layman like you and me 😉
Not the most glamorous or luxe packaging, but that’s what I like about it – unpretentious on the outside, such a gem on the inside. The packaging is so lightweight and feels really durable aka good enough to kick around or roll around in the luggage without breaking! I see myself taking this along with me on my travels in the future.
What is it?
A water-based, water-resistant foundation that provides long-lasting, natural coverage for face and/or body. Ideal for all skin types. Face and Body Foundation provides sheer, natural looking coverage in an easy to blend, water-resistant formula. The long-lasting formula is available in a wide range of colours and contains several emollients to help moisturize and condition the skin. It delivers professional looking results that meet the exacting standards of beauty photography and is ideal for perfecting the face and body.
It also comes in quite a wide range of colours, 12 to be exact. I picked up the colour N3 which matches my skin perfectly without being too yellow like the C shades.
You will need to give the bottle a really.. and I mean REALLY good shake before use. When you first dispense it from the bottle, it looks and feels just like any liquid foundation. Initially, it feels almost too liquidy and almost too diluted to be a foundation. As you blend it into your skin, the foundation thickens up with a sudden burst of pigment which miraculously appears to even out your skin tone. This foundation does however set pretty fast, so you really only have about 30 seconds to work it into your skin.
As with most other liquid foundations, you can either use a brush, sponge or fingers to apply. I have tried using my fingers as well as the Real Technique Expert Face Brush to layer and blend the foundation to my skin and I very much prefer using my fingers. I don’t usually use fingers for liquid foundation but because of the unique thickening consistency of the MAC Face & Body Foundation, it is easier to blend using fingers. RT brush is one of my favourite brushes to use for foundation but it made the MAC Face & Body Foundation very streaky. I suppose this is large due to the odd texture, making it difficult to control with a brush.
Best way to apply this is to work it into the skin in small sections so that you can properly blend it into the skin evenly. I like using a rubbing/blending and patting motion. I’ve not tried it with a sponge like Beauty Blender but I am guessing it should work quite well, except that you might end up wasting more product since this is a water-based foundation, it may get soaked into the sponge more quickly than other foundation.
Coverage & Finish
As you can see from the pictures above, this foundation provides sheer to light coverage. It gives a “my skin but better” kind of look by evening out the skin tone and smoothing out the skin while providing a nice dewy finish which I love. The texture and finish is very natural and skin-like, which makes it great for everyday wear. I find myself reaching for this foundation a lot recently, especially on good skin days just to liven up my face and toning down some of the freckles on my cheekbones.
If you like foundation with more coverage or have blemishes that you need to conceal, you will need to build up the foundation in thin layers. It is very buildable without the “thick heavy makeup” feel. But, don’t expect to get full coverage from this. You will probably be looking at medium coverage at it’s best.
As mentioned above, this foundation provides quite a dewy finish which would be perfect after you set with some powder. What I love most about this is that it does not transfer at all! I have worn this on a few occasions for my chiropractic sessions and there was no unsightly foundation stain on the bed where I laid face-down. Big thumbs up!
- I love how comfortable it feels like to wear this foundation… like nothing!
- It is an extremely long lasting foundation which lasted me all day.. circa 12 hours!
- Very quick to apply and set, especially when applied with fingers.
- Reasonably priced (I think it is $48 for 50ml) and it will last you a long time.
- Can be used on other parts of the body apart from the face.
I would probably say to avoid this foundation if you have oily skin. Although it’s been marketed to be suitable for all skin types, it might be a tat too dewy for oily skin. Here’s a picture of me wearing this foundation with the rest of my face all made up.
Hope this review was helpful for you, let me know if you have tried this foundation.
