Review: MAC Cinderella Collection
Once again, MAC has teamed up with Disney to create a gorgeous collection of makeup, except this time, it’s not dark and villainous like the previous Venomous Villains and Maleficent. This time, it’s with the most well-loved Disney princess – Cinderella.
Available in Singapore (and I believe worldwide) from 26th February at Tangs and 6th March islandwide.
First look at the collection and you would notice the very familiar light periwinkle blue packaging, reminiscent of the gown Cinderella wore to the King’s ball. The theme was kept very ethereal and elegant, so no bold colours whatsoever. Instead, you get a lot of glimmer and splashes of rose gold.
This collection consists of:
- Lipstick in Free As A Butterfly (S$33)
- Lipstick in Royal Ball (S$33)
- Lipglass in Happily Ever After (S$33)
- Lipglass in Glass Slipper (S$33)
- Eyeshadow Palette in Stroke of Midnight, 6 colors (S$80)
- Eye Gloss in Lightly Taupe (S$45)
- Eye Gloss in Pearl Varnish (S$45)
- Fluidline in Little Black Bow (S$33)
- Fluidline in Macroviolet (S$33)
- Iridescent Pressed Powder in Coupe D’Chic (S$46)
- Glitter in Reflects Pearl (S$45)
- Pigment in Evil Stepmother (S$45)
- Pigment in Pretty it Up (S$45)
- Studio Fix Lash in Boldblack (S$35)
- Beauty Powder in Mystery Princess (S$46)
What Caught My Attention?
The eye glosses! Don’t we all love that glossy shine on eyelids which you normally only get from foil eyeshadows? I know I do. There are 2 eye glosses in the collection, but I personally think that Pearl Varnish (white one) is more wearable and versatile because you can just dab this over any eye colour to add shine and dimension.
Whilst I like the look of these glosses, I feel that they are only great for the runway or special events because the texture is super sticky! Yes, think MAC Lipglass on the eyelids. It was also a little messy to work with in my opinion, so much so that I didn’t even bother snapping a picture of my swatches because there was “goo” everywhere and I didn’t want to get them on my phone. These could even be tacky enough to create double eyelids on girls with monolids :p
MAC senior makeup artist Beno suggests mixing the eye gloss with a little bit of oil – this can be any oil, even cleansing oil will do. He also suggests that we might need to apply the gloss higher up on the eyelids, especially for Asian eyes where we don’t have that stationary eyelid and deep socket.
Iridescent Powder in Coupe D’Chic is a shimmery golden peach highlighter. Mystery Princess is another Beauty Powder from MAC. I think both are quite pretty and smooth, so definitely check them out.
I received 2 items from the collection to try out – Stroke of Midnight Palette & Royal Ball lipstick
Stroke of Midnight Eyeshadow Palette
The packaging of this palette is awesome, it’s got a magnetic catch that snaps shut and is rather slim, making it an easy palette to travel with. Some might say it looks too simple, but I tend to like simple packaging better because it usually translates into portability and practicality. Yup, I am very practical and simplicity is always the best.
There are 6 colours in the palette – 5 permanent shades and a new limited edition shade, that is Stroke of Midnight. What I really like about this palette is the choice of colours, they consists of some of MAC’s most popular shades like Omega and Satin Taupe. I think if you don’t already own these eyeshadows, and have always wanted to, like me, then this is the palette for you. Every shade in the palette has great pigmentation and are very creamy and smooth.
Overall, $80 is a very good price for some of MAC’s most wearable colours in a limited edition pastel periwinkle Cinderella palette. You need to check out this palette when it’s out on the 26th Feb. I highly recommend it!
Royal Ball Lipstick
As for the lipstick, Royal Ball feels very smooth and I thought it would be quite sheer, but turns out to be very creamy and quite pigmented. It’s a pretty pink nude that will work best for fair skin ladies. I just look pale and sickly with such nudes 🙁 Shame because it’s a really pretty shade.
Here are some shots of the finished look.
PS: I’m not wearing the Royal Ball Lipstick in the pics 😀
