Review: Lancôme Absolue Sublime Rejuvenating Essence Foundation
Hello there!! Been on a little hiatus last week because there was just too many things going on with my life. Birthdays, dinners, work and most importantly… YOGA! Yes, I recently took up yoga as an aid to enhance my journey to preserving youth.. that’s for a later post 😉
This is the first Lancôme foundation I’ve ever tried, and to be honest, after trying this, I thought to myself, what took me so long to discover Lancôme foundations?!
What is it?
The Lancôme Absolue Sublime Rejuvenating Essence Foundation is the first foundation from Lancôme that includes skincare properties from their super-luxe Absolue skincare range.
Infused with precious oils, Absolue Sublime Rejuvenating Essence Foundation is the Lancôme fluid foundation with the most highly concentration in skincare active ingredients. At the heart of its formula lies the remarkable trio that is already the force behind Absolue Sublime Regenerating Oleo-Serum:
- Citrus essential oil: made up of more than 100 components, it helps to stimulate the skin-self regeneration potential,
- Camelia oil: rich in essential fatty acids, whose structure is similar to that of the skin’s lipids, it was chosen to help improve skin barrier function,
- Pro-XylaneTM: obtained by a green-processed extraction method, it is Lancôme Research’s most effective anti-ageing molecule.
Absolue Sublime Rejuvenating Essence Foundation aims to provide Absolue’s unique skin signature: the Golden Glow. Day after day, the skin comes closer to this glowing aura of beauty which is the emotional print of each Absolue woman, the most sophisticated in the world.
The foundation comes in a beautiful luxurious frosted gold glass bottle with a crystal-like cap. The bottle holds 30ml of product and is very sturdy. It comes with a pump, which is nice… However, I find that there is a flaw with the design of the pump. It resembles a perfume vaporizer, where the opening is flat and does not have the protruding tip like most foundation bottles. Because of the design of the nozzle, it is very easy to make a mess after each use because leftover foundation will flow into the rim of the pump. Guess I’m a little OCD and like to keep my foundation bottles clean so I tend to always use a tissue to wipe the entire nozzle after every use. With most other foundation bottles, you can easily “wipe” the tip on the back of your hand but that would not work for this bottle.
However, there is also a huge positive for this nozzle, it allows for extremely good control of how much foundation you dispense. I find that I’m able to do a half or even quarter pump of the foundation. Most foundation pumps “force” you to dispense one full pump.
Texture, Coverage & Application
The foundation is quite runny in texture. When I first blended that little glob on the back of my hands, I just let out an unanticipated “ahhh” it was so smooth! It’s one of those textures that you need to feel it to believe it.
Given how runny the foundation looked, I was expecting the coverage to be pretty light but again, the foundation surprised me when it beautifully concealed the veins on the back of my hand.
I like applying the foundation with my Sigma F80 and F82 brushes. The foundation was so easy to blend and work into the skin. The foundation has light to medium coverage and a little goes a long way. It is extremely smooth and does not cake up or cause any streaks on the face. What’s lovely is that it actually fills in the pores on my nose and does not accentuate it at all like how some foundations do.
The above pic seems to show that the foundation is slightly too light for me but that’s largely due to the harsh ring light flashing directly at my face. So excuse that and let’s focus on the finish.
As you can see, it does cover up the pores on my nose quite nicely. Even my undereye circles appear less dark (note: the picture above is pre-concealer and powder). The finish is dewy with a beautiful healthy glow which is so flattering.
What impressed me the most about this foundation is how hydrating it is!! I have normal to dry skin and most foundations tend to settle into my fine lines or start to appear very dry during the day since I spend most of my day in the air-conditioned office. Whenever I wear this foundation, my skin at 8pm will look just like it did at 8am! It is something that has never happened. I guess the Camelia oil in this foundation really does work wonders!
I have been using it for a couple weeks now and I can safely say that I really LOVE everything about it (maybe apart from the pump) but ya, I really do love it! The foundation is very comparable to one of my favourite foundations – the YSL Youth Liberator Foundation but the Lancome Absolue Essence Foundation has much better lasting power. This foundation does not budge at all! It stays on beautifully for over 10 hours, which is extremely impressive especially when it’s got a pretty dewy finish. I have even worn it to hot yoga after work when I didn’t have time to remove my makeup and it holds on really well amid the sweat and heat.
With regards to the skincare properties of the foundation working, I’m not entirely sure if it helps but I have noticed that my skin has appeared smoother and more hydrated. The skincare ingredients definitely helped keep the skin looking fresh and smooth when I have the foundation on.
This foundation is definitely more well-suited for normal to dry skin. I suppose it would work for combination skin if you use a primer underneath. I would not recommend it for oily skin though because you might end up looking like a grease ball.
5 Reasons why you need to try this?
- If you have normal to dry skin and have been struggling to find a foundation that REALLY works to hydrate when you wear makeup, then this is what you need to try.
- It’s a one-step foundation if pores are your biggest concerns because it fills them in beautifully.
- It photographs very well.
- It creates an illusion of “no-makeup” natural look, except smoother.
- Infused with skincare properties… why not?
Where to get?
It is available at all Lancome counters for $138. The foundation comes in 6 shades. I wear shade 210.
Hope this was helpful.
