Review | Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer

Review | Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer

When I first received the invitation to preview the new Clinique Pop Lip Colours, I was expecting the lipsticks to be sheer, like a number of new collections which were recently launched. Sheer lipsticks were a thing of the past for me now. Ever since I learnt to moisturize my lips properly so that they don’t dry out quite as easily as before, I also learnt to fall in love with rich, pigmented and even matte lipsticks. You can imagine my excitement when I realised these sweet pops were not sheer at all!

Formula | Lipstick + Primer?

So it is a lipstick and primer all-in-one? Yay!! Basically, the formula of the lipsticks is a complex composition of sodium hyaluronate, ceramides, shea butter and murumuru butter which serves to smooth lips over time. The formula also provide full coverage that doesn’t bleed or fade away. I find the formula to be very creamy and comfortable to wear. It reminds me a lot of the NARS Audacious lipsticks.

Shades Selection

This collection comes in 13 shades, divided into 4 different groups – Nudes, Tawnies, Pinks and Violets. So there’s really something for everyone.

Why only 13 shades? Clinique has performed extensive surveys worldwide and determined that these are the best selling shades.

Clinique Pop Lip Colour + Primer

Rich Colour lipstick + smoothing primer in one. Perfect fun, flirty colours with built-in primer that smoothes, defines and nourishes lips to keep them conditioned throughout the day. Available 9 April at $33 each.

Pros

  • Opaque and pigmented
  • Creamy and comfortable to wear
  • Very moisturizing
  • Longlasting – 4-5 hours on me

Cons

  • Limited shade range – lack of a true red

Final Thoughts

I’m very impressed with these, I just wish there was a true red. The closest to a red is Cherry Pop but it leans slightly blue pink. Other than that, these are really quite nice.

Here are some shots of me wearing the 3 shades I got.
